A recipe for pancakes that I grew up on. :"D It ruined me for any other pancakes, ever.
This was the first finished assignment for my Monday class, Illustrating the Edible: we were to illustrate a recipe significant to our childhood or cultural identity in some way, for the (fantastic!) food blog, They Draw & Cook.
The cartoon children are actually based off of my brother and myself when we were much younger (and cuter!) I think one of my favorite parts is how he turned out.
I was also trying something new in this painting: colored lines. I painted directly over my pencil drawing, something I haven't done in years, and afterward went through and pulled out the important lines. Not only did I work in the opposite order, I didn't use a speck of black ink.
The jury's still out on how I can use the colored lines in a less children's illustrative fashion (limit the colors I use for lines, to start), but I'm happy the direction this assignment took.
So this never showed up in page to tell me when you put up awesome deviantions....but I must say this is very cute. It reminds me of those little cookbooks for kids..except better!
I love how you put your brother and yourself in it, and yes you were cute then (ahhh, I remember you super awesome long braid...) but you both are still cute and awesome now
I really do enjoy the colored lines...it makes the whole piece seem...free-er? very pretty though. Now you're making me hungry!
